A new Neptune - mass planet orbiting HD 219828 ⋆
Two years ago a new benchmark for the planetary survey was set with the discoveries of three extrasolar planets with masses below 20M⊕. In particular, the serendipitous discovery of the 14M⊕ planet around µ Ara found with HARPS with a semi-amplitude of only 4 m s −1 put in evidence the tremendous potential of HARPS for the search of this class of very low-mass planets. Aiming to discovering new...
متن کاملThe M Dwarf GJ 436 and its Neptune - Mass Planet
We determine stellar parameters for the M dwarf GJ 436 that hosts a Neptunemass planet. We employ primarily spectral modeling at low and high resolution, examining the agreement between model and observed optical spectra of five comparison stars of type, M0-M3. Modeling high resolution optical spectra suffers from uncertainties in TiO transitions, affecting the predicted strengths of both atomi...
متن کاملHAT - P - 11 b : A SUPER - NEPTUNE PLANET TRANSITING A BRIGHT K STAR IN THE KEPLER FIELD
We report on the discovery of HAT-P-11b, the smallest radius transiting extrasolar planet (TEP), and the first hot Neptune discovered to date by transit searches. HAT-P-11b orbits the bright (V=9.587) and metal rich ([Fe/H] = +0.31 ± 0.05) K4 dwarf star GSC 03561-02092 with P = 4.8878162 ± 0.0000071 days and produces a transit signal with depth of 4.2mmag; the shallowest found by transit search...
متن کاملEvolutionary Analysis of Gaseous Sub-neptune-mass Planets with Mesa
Sub-Neptune-sized exoplanets represent the most common types of planets in the Milky Way, yet many of their properties are unknown. Here, we present a prescription to adapt the capabilities of the stellar evolution toolkit Modules for Experiments in Stellar Astrophysics (MESA) to model sub-Neptune mass planets with H/He envelopes. With the addition of routines treating the planet core luminosit...
متن کاملProbabilistic Mass–radius Relationship for Sub-neptune-sized Planets
The Kepler Mission has discovered thousands of planets with radii <4 Å R , paving the way for the first statistical studies of the dynamics, formation, and evolution of these sub-Neptunes and super-Earths. Planetary masses are an important physical property for these studies, and yet the vast majority of Kepler planet candidates do not have theirs measured. A key concern is therefore how to map...
